Volunteer with us

Organisation for Community Social Support and Research in Development (OCSSRD) allows both National and International volunteers to apply their theoretical knowledge to gain practical and field skills through participating in organization activities. The offer is competitive and is given on merit. Volunteering with OCSSRD will be for 6 months. A volunteer will cater for all his/her travel costs and will NOT be paid monthly salary. He/She will be given field allowances, accommodation and welfare. All those applicants who will be selected will be given the second practical interviews (results oriented) through their emails. This process is free of charge.

Volunteering Job Description

We are happy that your interested in volunteering with us. Let us provide you with some information on what we will expect from you.

Your job
Will depend on your personal interests and skills. You have the opportunity to work among the following fields;

  • Teaching English
  • Community Health
  • Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
  • Arts crafts
  • Sports
  • Projects designing and implementation
  • Participate in Project Proposal writing (Must)
  • Research
  • Networking
  • Fundraisings (Must)
  • Civic Education Engagements, Community dialogues, interface meetings etc

You will be working 6 hours a day from Monday to Friday. You will be required to extend to 8 hours in the busy days however it is optional. Weekends are off and your free to your free to use it discover the beautiful scenery of Lyantonde, Kachera Swamp, beautiful animals in L. Mburo National Park and the local indigenous Bahima tribe (Pastoralists)

What to do in your free time
You can choose to learn about local communities in your free time;

  • Learn local languages ie Runyankore and Luganda
  • Community walks
  • The Bahima experience
  • Cultural dances
  • Hiking the hills made in stones
  • Exploring Lake Mburo National Park
  • Visit nearby cities
  • Laying bricks etc

What to bring

  • Clothes for warm and chilly weather
  • Rain jacket/Umbrera
  • Sunscreen and aftersun (not available here)
  • Sunglasses if applicable
  • Good shoes for hiking
  • Shower gel, shampoo (or use local soap)
  • Power bank (advised)
  • For ladies: tampons or Cup, you can get pads only
  • Personal laptop


Costs

Since the organization is still young and it cannot cater all the requirements for volunteers, a volunteer will be requested to incur a cost as indicated in the table below against the duration and benefits;

2 6 Months USD 7,200
  • Transport to and from the airport
  • Accommodation for 6 months

  • 4 paid visits to cities
  • Two paid visits to Lake Mburo National park in Kiruhura district and Lake George in Kitagwenda district
  • A paid visit to Kariiro technical school
  • 6 visits to indigenous Bahima Farms
  • A paid visit to Kariiro technical school
  • A volunteer shall be given a Certificate of completion at the end of volunteering period.
  • A volunteer shall acquire a status of the “OCSSRD AMBASSADOR” immediately after the volunteering period. He/She will represent the organisation in his/her own country in organisation activities
3 12 Months (1 year) 14,400 USD
  • Transport to and from the airport
  • Accommodation for 12 months
  • Electricity Bills for 12 months
  • Water bills for 12 months
  • Breakfast for 12 months
  • Lunch for 12 months
  • Evening tea for 12 months
  • 4 paid visits to cities
  • Two paid visits to Lake Mburo National park in Kiruhura district and Lake George in Kitagwenda district
  • 6 visits to indigenous Bahima Farms
  • Monthly allowances of 100,000 UGX per month
  • A paid visit to Kariiro technical school
  • -If OCSSRD has funds/a funded project, a Volunteer will be given the first priority to get a job (during the recruitment processes)
  • A volunteer shall be given a Certificate of completion at the end of volunteering period.
  • A volunteer shall acquire a status of the “OCSSRD AMBASSADOR” immediately after the volunteering period. He/She will represent the organisation in his/her own country in organisation activities

Terms of payment

A volunteer must pay 50% of the prescribed fee in the table above before reporting and 50% first month after reporting depending on the period applied. For example for 3 months, the 50% payment is 1,800USD before reporting and 1,800USD after reporting etc
